Posted: 19 December 2012 Time: 01:28 pm
Bloemfontein Celtic will look to end 2012 on a high when they host Black Leopards at Free State Stadium on Wednesday. Kick-off at 19h30.
Celtic ended a three-game winless streak in the League when they defeated Moroka Swallows 2-1 on the weekend.
The Bloemfontein side has a fine home record this season, with five wins from seven matches. Phunya Sele Sele are placed seventh on the log with 20 points from 15 matches.
Leopards suffered a second successive defeat for the first time this season with a 2-1 loss at home to Free State Stars at the weekend.
The Limpopo side has recorded two wins, three draws and two defeats from their seven matches on the road so far. Lidoda Duvha are placed 12th on the log with 16 points from 15 matches.
In head-to-head stats, Celtic and Leopards have met in 11 League matches since 2004/05.
The record is dead even between the teams: three wins apiece, five draws and 18 goals scored each.
Celtic have won two, drawn two and lost one of their five home matches against Leopards down the years.
When the teams met earlier this season, Lidoda Duvha triumphed 3-2 at home thanks to goals from Brian Amidu, Thomas Madimba and Rodney Ramagalela.

Benni mum on future

Benni McCarthy won't comment on Orlando Pirates future
Posted: 12 December 2012 Time: 03:04 pm
Orlando Pirates striker Benni McCarthy tells KickOff.com he is playing his cards close to his chest after revelations that he could leave the club at the end of the season.
McCarthy, whose contract with Bucs expires in July, apparently has a couple of options lined up, including the USA and China, while a rumour is doing the rounds that he could cross the floor to join Kaizer Chiefs.
KickOff.com approached McCarthy for comment, but he is giving little away at this stage.
"I'm the wrong person to ask about my future. I don't know where the rumours come from or if this is true," he says.
"All I know is that I'm a Pirates player and I'm contracted to the team until end of the season. I'm fulfilling my obligations with Pirates and all the other stuff is just rumours. I haven't been in contact with anybody.
"If I do well for Pirates maybe I may stay longer and I will welcome that... but you never know what may happen," he adds.
McCarthy's agent Rob Moore, however, hinted to the Sowetan that Bafana Bafana's all-time leading goalscorer could be on the move end of the season.
Only time will tell...

Senzo makes Bafana squad

Senzo Meyiwa makes Bafana Bafana squad to face Malawi
Posted: 11 December 2012 Time: 11:37 am
Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa made Gordon Igesund's Bafana Bafana squad to face Malawi.
Kermit Erasmus is not on the list, and neither are George Lebese and Ricardo Nunes.
Meyiwa's Pirates teammate Thabo Matlaba is also back in the team, after being left out for the Nelson Mandela Challenge against Zambia.
There is just one Mamelodi Sundowns representative, goalkeeper Wayne Sandilands, with Bafana veteran Teko Modise being dropped for this game.
Youngster Ayanda Patosi has been handed a first call-up, possibly inspired by his recent form for Lokeren – including this wonder-goal – while Lehlohonolo Majoro and Daine Klate are also back in the fold.
Thuso Phala has made the team again.
Igesund has also named 12 players that will join the squad for a "mini-camp" from December 27-30: Darren Keet, Mulomowandau Mathoho, Anele Ngcongca, Andile Jali, Teko Modise, Bongani Khumalo, Ricardo Nunes, Thulani Serero, Katelgo Mphela, Benni McCarthy, Kagisho Dikgacoi and Dean Furman.

  • Kekana: The President Encouraged Us

    14 October 2012
Mamelodi Sundowns have suffered their worst start to a season since the formation of the PSL in 1996, losing five league games in their opening seven fixtures, while racking up only four points.
The Chloorkop-based outfit’s last outing saw them on the losing end of a 1-0 scoreline after Platinum stars defeated them at the Lucas Moripe Stadium. The club president, Patrice Motsepe, watched the game from the stands and spoke to the coach, the technical team and the players about the situation, after the game.

Sundowns midfielder, Hlompho Kekana, explained that the president encouraged the squad and urged them to not lose hope. Motsepe said the situation was temporary and that it would come to an end.

“He was very frank and open with us. He told us that he understands that the situation was bad for everyone in the team but the most important part is that he encouraged us to keep on working hard and turn the situation around.

“He told us he believes in the coach, the technical team and the players and that the situation is temporary which means we can change it.

“It was encouraging to see the president give us words of encouragement. Now we have to work hard and turn things around starting with the Telkom Knockout game next week," Kekana said.

Downs face University of Pretoria in the first round of the Telkom Knockout, in a home game at Loftus Stadium on October 23.
