Aces, Sundowns lead Diski Group B

Mpumalanga Black Aces moved top of Group B when they came back from a goal down to register a hard fought 3-1 victory over Platinum Stars in their MultiChoice Diski Challenge match at the Olympia Park Stadium in Rustenburg on Sunday.

Dikwena opened the scoring first with Thembelani Matlawe in the 14th minute.

But the Mpumalanga based outfit visitors staged a comeback with goals from Essau Mtsweni in the 41st minute and a second half powerful drive by Aubrey Modiba in the 67th minute to secure all the three points. Pilican Khumalo ended the game as a contest on the stroke of fulltime to make it 3-1.

Joining Aces on seven points are Mamelodi Sundowns, who did enough to edge AmaZulu 2-1 at the Princess Magogo Stadium - handing the home side their third-straight loss.

The visitors took the lead in the 28th minute when Mpumelelo Hlatshwayo’s pile driver pierced the bottom left corner of Siyabonga Mngoma's net.

Sundowns had the brighter start and through their captain Bonginkosi Ntuli, they threatened the AmaZulu defence constantly. Had they been more clinical in the box, they would have had more than a slender goal cushion.

Siyanda Zwane put the seal on the three points with good finish in the 86th minute to seal the deal for the visitors. Darren Smith pulled one back four minutes later but it was too little, too late.

Bidvest Wits needed a late goal to end Orlando Pirates' unbeaten run in their match at Bidvest Stadium.

The young Students opened the scoring in the 29th minute through Asive Langwe. Substitute Katlego Ntwaisha found the equaliser for Pirates with five minutes remaining on the clock, but Mthokosizi Msomi secured the win when he scored four minutes later.

It was Wits’ first win of the tournament after drawing their first two matches, they become the first team to stop Pirates who had won all their clashes coming into the match.

In the first match of the day, Chippa United bounced back with a resounding 6-2 win over Free State Stars at the Galvendale Sports Stadium in Eastern Cape.

Khanyisa Mayo and Siyabonga Dabula both scored a brace in a match that produced four goals within the first ten minutes. Reabetswe Rakoti pulled one back for Stars in the 8th minute after Mayo scored in the first and third minute. Dabula opened his account ten minute into the match before completed his brace in the 55th minute, adding the fifth goal after William Twala had found the fourth three minutes earlier.

Sydeny Masana had brought Stars back into the match when he scored their second goal in the 28th minute to make it 3-2. Substitute Somila Ntsundwana completed the rout when he netted the sixth goal, a minute from fulltime.

The tournament moves to Pretoria next weekend where all the teams will be in action both on Saturday and Sunday - the matches will take place at the Tuks Stadium.
