Bidvest Wits
The Students were held to a 1-1 by Platinum Stars in the opening match in Umlazi, conceding a late goal after Mthokozisi Msomi had given them the lead. That clash was followed by an entertaining 3-3 draw against Mpumalanga Black Aces in Soweto, Tshidiso Monamodi and Elasto Kapowezha scored with the third one being an own goal. They then edged Pirates, who had not dropped any points, 2-1 in their next match - through goals from Asive Langwe and Msomi. They lost 2-0 against Free State Stars in their first match in Pretoria and drew 1-1 with Mamelodi Sundowns the following day, with Monamodi finding the target. Another 1-all draw against bottom-placed AmaZulu put their qualification hopes in jeopardy. They needed to win their last match and also hope the other results went to their favour. With the other rivals winning their matches, they were eliminated despite beating Chippa United 3-1.

The Chilli Boys lost 3-2 against Aces in a thrilling-opener in Cape Town, with Ayanda Yake and Mziyayise Williams scoring their goals. They also lost their second match 2-1 against Pirates in Soweto despite going ahead via Owen Naidoo's goal. They turned the tables in their third clash thumping Free State 6-2 with Khanyisa Mayo and Siyabonga Dabula scoring a brace each. That result was followed by their second defeat, where Sundowns won 2-0 in Pretoria. They found their form the next day as they thumped AmaZulu 4-1, with Mayo and Siyabulela Shai both netting a double. The match that derailed them was the 1-1 draw away to Platinum in their sixth match. Their slim hopes of progressing to the quarterfinals ended in the final encounter where they lost 3-1 away to Wits.

Stars lost their first match by a 1-0 scoreline against Sundowns in Cape Town. Their second defeat came in the next match, going down 6-2 to Chippa. They recovered to edge Wits 2-0 in Pretoria through goals from Richard Henyekane and Maphathe. They then drew 1-1 with Black Aces after Sydney Masana had gaven them an early lead. The sixth match ended in another deafeat against Pirates after allowing them to fight back from a goal down and win 2-1. Platinum handed them their fourth loss in the final match, where they went down 2-1.
